Terms of Service

We monitor U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalls and notify you by email when a recall appears to match a product on your watchlist. The matching is automated and not perfect.

ownitsafely is an independent service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Recall data is sourced from CPSC’s public API. For authoritative details and instructions, always consult cpsc.gov.

An alert from us means our matching engine thinks a recall might apply to a product you’ve added. Always verify the official CPSC notice before acting (returning the product, contacting the manufacturer, etc.). We try hard to keep false positives and missed matches low, but we don’t guarantee accuracy or completeness.

You agree to provide a real email address you can receive mail at, to keep your password secure, and to be responsible for activity on your account. You can delete your account at any time from the account page.

You agree not to:

• Use the Service to send spam or harass anyone.
• Scrape, mirror, or republish recall data through automated access to our pages or API (CPSC’s API is public; use it directly).
• Attempt to break, probe, or circumvent the Service’s security. If you find a vulnerability, please email security@ownitsafely.com instead.
• Use the Service in violation of any applicable law.

The Service is provided to you at no charge, “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law. This includes accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, and uninterrupted availability.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, neither [OPERATOR_NAME] nor anyone working with us is liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service — including but not limited to damages from missed or delayed alerts. If a court rejects this limitation, our aggregate liability is capped at one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we reasonably believe pose a security risk. Sections that by their nature should survive (Limitation of liability, Governing law) survive termination.

We may change features, pricing (if we ever charge), or these Terms. If we change the Terms materially, we’ll update the effective date and email account holders. Your continued use after the change means you accept it.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of [OPERATOR_STATE], without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that can’t be resolved by email at legal@ownitsafely.com will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in [OPERATOR_STATE].
